This unit is a study of how fear can be used to threaten or limit freedom and how words can be used to overcome fear and limitations.
Using a variety of texts, including “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, Fahrenheit 451° by Ray Bradbury, and “The Pedestrian” by
Ray Bradbury, students are challenged to examine topics like fear, and censorship in dystopian literature. The final assessment requires
students to write an argument essay addressing the importance of using words to express beliefs.
