Bonnie Pechulis is the Specialist for World Languages and ESOL at the Maryland State Department of Education. She coordinates the development of the Maryland World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, implementation of the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy, and provides technical support to local school systems for professional development activities that promote best practices in world language teaching and learning. Mrs. Pechulis works with representatives from colleges, universities, state agencies, embassies and community and professional organizations to promote world languages and international education. Prior to joining MSDE in 2013, Mrs. Pechulis was a Spanish and French teacher and a world languages mentor for 31 years for Baltimore County Public Schools. She has also taught world language methods courses at Towson University and Notre Dame of Maryland University. She holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Towson University and certification in Spanish PreK-12 and Administration.
