Unit/Cluster: Identify and describe two-dimensional shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles; including a square which is a special rectangle.)
Standard(s):
PK.G.A.1: Match like (congruent and similar) shapes.
PK.G.A.2: Group the shapes by attributes.

Purpose/Big Idea: To give students multiple and varied opportunities to identify shapes, identify their attributes, and sort them based on their attributes.

Materials:

1. Shapes (attribute blocks, cut out shapes, plastic food in variety of shapes)
2. Music (any music, or song that students know)

Activity:

1. Ask students to sit in a circle and pass out several shapes to students.
2. When the music begins, students pass the shape to the person next to them.
3. When the music stops, the students who are holding a shape describe the attributes of their shape.
4. Begin the music again and continue to pass the shapes

Guiding Questions:

1. How many sides does your shape have?
2. Tell me about your shape.
3. Does anyone else have a shape like yours? How do you know?
