Lesson seeds are ideas that can be used to build a lesson aligned to the CCSS. Lesson seeds are not meant to be all-inclusive, nor are they substitutes for instruction. When developing lessons from these seeds, teachers must consider the needs of all learners. It is also important to build checkpoints into the lessons where appropriate formative assessment will inform a teachers instructional pacing and delivery..

Content Emphasis by Clusters in Prekindergarten: Question

    Key:
    1. Major Clusters
    2. Supporting Clusters
    3. Additional Clusters

    Counting and Cardinality

    1. Know number names and the count sequence
    2. Count to tell the number of objects.
    3. Compare quantites.

    Operations and Algebraic Thinking

    1. Understanding addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

Number and operations in Base Ten

    1. Work with numbers 0-10 to gain foundations for place value.

    Measurement and Data

    1. Describe and compare measurable attributes.
    2. • Sort objects into categories and compare quantities.

    Geometry

    1. Identify and describe two-dimensional shapes (circles, traingles, rectangle; including a square which is a special rectangle).
    2. Work with three-dimensional shapes to gain foundation for geometric thinking.
