Lesson seeds are ideas that can be used to build a lesson aligned to the CCSS. Lesson seeds are not meant to be all-inclusive, nor are they
substitutes for instruction. When developing lessons from these seeds, teachers must consider the needs of all learners. It is also important to build checkpoints into the
lessons where appropriate formative assessment will inform a teachers instructional pacing and delivery.
Lesson Seed 7 - Day 16
How does the author show that feelings and the environment influence people's actions?
Digital and print resources (some require a subscription).
Digital and Text Resources:
Explain to the students that research involves using multiple texts to report learning. Show students the sample note taking sheets for each of the texts/digital tools (Brainpop Jr. video, Pebble Go articles and Discovery Education video). The teacher may choose to have a hard copy of the text from the discovery education video. Review the focus questions for the research with the students and model how to complete the note taking forms.
Engage students by modeling how to take notes when viewing writing in multiple formats (ie articles, texts, videos). Discuss the focus questions with the students and allow time for partner and/or small group discussion prior to whole group.
Extension: Have students synthesize the information from each source presented to report on how the author demonstrates how feelings and the environment influence people's actions.
