Lesson seeds are ideas that can be used to build a lesson aligned to the CCSS. Lesson seeds are not meant to be all-inclusive, nor are they substitutes for instruction.
When developing lessons from these seeds, teachers must consider the needs of all learners. It is also important to build checkpoints into the lessons where appropriate formative assessment will inform a teachers instructional pacing and delivery.

Text: Chapter 3 and 4 of Brave New World
Learning outcome: Students will identify the components of a stable society and evaluate how the World State is maintained through "community, identity, stability."
Warm up- How are modern societies maintained? For example, how is the society of the United Stated maintained?
Teacher follow up questions to students in order to assist with the warm up:
For example, our society is relatively stable because of certain freedoms and limitations. We enjoy a certain amount of freedom because if someone commits a crime in our society, what happens? (Theoretically they will be arrested and tried in court with an assigned penalty). So, one way our society is maintained is through laws and a democratically governed system. But what else? Economically? Environmentally? Emotionally?
~Allow student time to write and share an answer. (about 10 minutes)
(Remind students: legally, literally, socially, environmentally, population capacity, emotionally.)
Teacher notes: In addition to students answers, clarify for students that the Communities carefully structured uniform Identity ensures Stability.
