Serving as news correspondents in the spring of 1861, have the students write news analysis articles describing the goals, challenges, and advantages of both the North and South as the Civil War begins. Then, when class coverage of the War is finished, have the students revisit their articles and decide which factors were most influential in deciding the war’s outcome.
